Oct. 9: Pioneer Day at Waterloo Farm Museum and Dewey School

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Catherine Alter for the information in this story.)

Come celebrate 60 years of Pioneer Day with us at Waterloo Farm Museum and Dewey School on Sunday, Oct. 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Wander the grounds and explore the farmhouse and numerous outbuildings depicting farm life in the mid-late 1800s.

Watch craftsmen and demonstrators showcase their wares and talents in blacksmithing, weaving, spinning, basketmaking, broom making to name a few.

Try your hand at rope making, corn shelling, and flint knapping.

Get a molasses cookie baked in the bakehouse and our famous Waterloo bean soup from concessions.

Tap your toes to live music.

The barn will be over-flowing with hand made dried flower arrangements and decor made from locally gathered materials.

Children can make their own tussiemussie. Listen to the clip-clop of horses’ hooves while riding in a hay wagon down a country lane. Visit the farm wagon for edibles and the gift shop for old-time items.

The Spinners Flock and Swallowtail Pottery will be just a few of the many vendors.

Dewey School will be open for tours and a little schoolin’ so stop in.

All this and more Sunday, Oct. 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
