Publisher’s message: Missing stories, newsletter links

Something colorful and bright for you.

So, the transition from Chelsea Update’s old server to the new one didn’t go as smoothly as planned and for that I’m truly sorry.

Readers’ newsletters listed stories that weren’t available on the site.

Stories and photos showed up then disappeared and reappeared. Then disappeared again. In some cases for good.

In fact, about 30 stories were lost in the transition/translation. Some of them I’ve been able to recover. Or recreate. Others are lost for good — along with the notes for them because during this time, as I do at the end of each year, I recycled a lot of paper.

And, I’ve learned another important lesson in this age of technology, which sometimes doesn’t work as it should. I will always have a “Word” version of future stories so none are lost forever.

It’s been like the movie “Ground Hog Day” for me — rewriting and recreating and refiling. Believe me, it’s been just as frustrating for me as it has been for you.

So, thank you to the more than 175 people who have contacted me to let me know that there have been problems. I’ve always tried to respond personally to everyone who contacts me but in this case, I think it’s more important to get the posts back up than to take the time to let everyone know that we’re aware of the glitches.

And yes, we think we now have them licked. We’ll know for sure on Monday when the newsletter goes out to readers.

So, I can truly say I’m looking forward to Monday. And I hope that everyone has a great day and logs onto Chelsea Update and finds lots of stories that they can actually read. And those who subscribe to the free newsletter, find one in their inbox filled with “live” links to stories. If not, let me know.

And to all the students and their parents in the Chelsea School District. I hope your first day back from Christmas break is a terrific one.
