Jeff Daniels’ Purple Rose Theatre Company is accepting applicants for its new “Shakespeare at the Rose” class scheduled for Jan. 27- March 10 at the Purple Rose rehearsal facility in Chelsea.

Workshop hours are Mondays, from 7-11 p.m.

This new class will help take the fear out of performing Shakespeare, according to information about the class.

Learn how to approach the text, find the truth and apply fundamental principles of acting to classic scenes and monologues. This class will give you the tools to approach Shakespeare with a sense of confidence, adventure and honesty. Some rehearsal outside of class with a group is required.

PRTC Resident Artist Michelle Mountain says in a press release, “We’re going to find the life in Shakespeare and his language.  We will approach the work as if these are new plays and focus on finding the people in the Bard’s work as opposed to the stereotypical, archetypal characters.”

Purple Rose Artistic Director Guy Sanville and Mountain, will teach the class.

The workshop is for people of all skill levels ages 18 and older and the fee is $400. Class size is limited to 16.
