Purple Rose Theatre actors to read new play at library on Feb. 23

The Chelsea District Library invites everyone to a reading of a new play by Purple Rose Theatre Company (PRTC) actors titled ‘Annapurna’ by Sharr White.

The reading takes place Saturday, Feb. 23 from 10:30-1 p.m. in the library’s McKune Room.

The play revolves around a cantankerous poet named Ulysses who is resigned to spending his final days alone in a trailer park in the middle of nowhere. Instead, he gets an unexpected visit from Emma, his ex-wife, who has come for a final reckoning after 20 years apart.

The story of their life together – what went wrong and what went right – emerges powerfully and beautifully in this story about forgiveness and second chances, according to a press release from the library.

“Join us to hear this new work and share your feedback with the performers and PRTC Artistic Director Guy Sanville.

  1. The high point and low point of our holiday gift tickets to see Jeff Daniels “Unplugged” performance on Saturday December 26. Our so and daughter-in-law and seen a live performance several years ago and really enjoyed it. We were invited along with their two college-age children…total cost for six tickets was $450. The first half of the show was humorous, light-hearted and entertaining. Then Jeff Daniels began a dissertation on guns with obvious political undertones. It was so unexpected, and for us, as Second Amendment supporters, it changed the whole mood of the show. Jeff Daniels is entitled to his opinion, but we were there to be entertained. It went from totally enjoying the show to a feeling of disappointment, especially for our son and daughter-in-law who had just spent $450 for tickets as a holiday gift and, therefore, didn’t particularly want to get up and leave. That may not be much money for Jeff Daniels, but for the working middle class it is. I personally feel half the cost of the tickets should be refunded, but in any event, I’m sure they won’t make that mistake again.
