The Purple Rose Theatre’s production of “Harvey” is wonderful performance and stays true to the classic 1945 story while feeling fresh and updated.

The story is about a kind soul, Elwood P. Dowd, played by Richard McWilliams, who meets a Pooka – a spirit, that takes the form of a 6-foot invisible white rabbit named Harvey. Dowd’s adventures with Harvey and the problems that arise with his very socially-conscience family make this play one that everyone can relate to.

The entire cast is excellent, providing the audience with laughter and prompting applause during the play. And, they received a well-deserved standing ovation at the end.

The scene changes during the play are Irish songs, dances, and music that is delightful and presented by Caitlin Cavannaugh who plays Dowd’s niece.

Director, Guy Sanville says, “Harvey is my favorite American classic play. For over 60 years, this magical, hilarious, heartfelt and thought-provoking comedy has moved, delighted and inspired millions of people to rediscover the kindness inherent in all human beings”

Harvey is a must see and will be playing thru Aug. 26. Check out www.PurpleRoseTheatre.org for further information and ticket sales.
