Radon tests in Lima Township Hall show ‘dangerous’ levels

Lima Township Hall

By Lisa Carolin

The deadline to pay summer taxes is Sept. 4 and Lima Township Treasurer Nanette Havens will be at the Lima Township office from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. that day.

Also announced at the Sept. 11 Lima Township Board meeting were the results of radon testing in the Lima Township Hall.  Supervisor Craig Maier told the board that the results of recent radon tests done in both the basement and main level of Lima Township Hall showed dangerous levels of radon—12.4 in the basement and 5.7 on the main level with the acceptable level being less than 4.0.

More radon tests are being done right away after which Maier will pursue a plan of action with the board for both mold and radon problems.

The board unanimously approved authorizing the supervisor and clerk to sign a second agreement with the Washtenaw County Road Commission. Maier said the township realized a 19-percent savings on limestone projects, which amounted to $50,000. That money will be used to complete the South Lima Center Road to Jerusalem Road project as well as the application of 1,000 tons of additional limestone in the township. Maier said 40 percent of last year’s township budget was spent on roadwork.

There will be a Neighborhood Watch meeting for township residents at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 20, at the Township Hall.
