On Friday, July 18, 2014, Georgia Edith Shepherd, an angel on earth, went home to be with the Lord at the age of 94, under the loving care of her family and hospice.

She was born Georgia Edith Blair on May 9, 1920, in Harlan County, Kentucky. On Oct. 1, 1935, she married the love of her life, Oliver Cleveland Shepherd from Goodloe, KY, and within two years they moved to Michigan where they raised their family of 13 children in Chelsea and later in Waterloo.

In 1969, she started a successful business at her home, Waterloo Upholstery, which is still family-owned and operated to this day. She ran the shop for 34 years with the help of her family. She loved to fish and made many trips to Canada. In 2003, at the age of 83, she went to Alaska, camping and fishing for the summer with two of her sons and daughters-in-law. She loved bird-watching, quilting (making many quilts for her grandchildren), crochet, all types of gardening, making homemade toys for her children and grandchildren, word search puzzles, and visiting with family and friends.

She was known for her excellent cooking skills and hospitality, not only to her family but to everyone who showed up at her doorstep. Because of her loving and generous heart, she opened her home to anyone who needed a place to stay for as long as they needed it. Everyone enjoyed hearing her stories about her life – they will feed our memories forever. She gave her family a place to hang their coat, a place to eat a great meal, and a place to laugh, but most of all a place to love.
