Recent Obituary: Mauricenna ‘Betty’ Jones

Mauricenna “Betty” Jones
Of Chelsea, Michigan

Age 97, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at the Chelsea Retirement Community.

She was born June 9, 1926 in Muskegon, MI, the daughter of Morris and Mary Ella (Seemore) Wolcott. Betty retired from 3M in Ann Arbor. She liked coloring, puzzles, and solitaire.

In 1948, she married Eldon Carl Jones, and he preceded her in death on February 25, 1990. Survivors include two sons, Carl L. (Susie) Jones of Dexter and Dana M. Jones of Dexter; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two sons, Danny A. Ruthenburg and Eldon S. Jones. 

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 1, 2023 at 11:00 am at Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1-3 and 5-7pm. A private burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Waterloo, Michigan.

Gwen Frances Schrader
of Chelsea, Michigan

Age 91, died Sunday, November 26, 2023.  Gwen was born August 12, 1932, in Augusta Township, Michigan, the daughter of Harvey and Gertrude (Storck) Minick.

Gwen attended Lincoln High School and then joined the Air Force where she completed communications school. She became certified in Morse Code, the only woman in her graduating class.

She had many friends and varied interests. She was president of the Chelsea Historical Society. She was a teaching assistant at Cassidy Lake Technical School where she picked up some new vocabulary. She enjoyed antiquing and filled the family home with many treasures. She loved dogs and was fiercely passionate about animal protection.  Both she and Don played bridge for many years with Daphne and Bob Hodder, Bob and Mary Powers, Hal and Peg Pennington, Jack and Maryann Merkel, and Alice and Bob Thornton.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 2, 2023, 11am at Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea, with Deacon Tom Franklin officiating. A private burial will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Chelsea. The family will receive friends from 10am until the time of service.
