Recent obituary: Warren E. McArthur, Donald Ernest Vogel

Warren E. McArthur of Chelsea, age 74, passed away from kidney failure Monday, Oct. 23, 2017 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor surrounded by his family.

He was born Aug. 9, 1943 in Jackson, Michigan, the son of Floyd Allen and Betty (Turner) McArthur.

Warren graduated from Jackson High School in 1961. He earned a Bachelor’s in Music Performance from Michigan State University and a Master’s in Music Education and Administration from Wayne State University, and later a Master’s in Hazardous Waste Management Law and Regulation from Wayne State University.

Warren was a Band Director at Clintondale High School, University of Detroit High School, and Dexter High School, ending his teaching career in 1977. Warren and Judy owned and operated Chelsea Cleaners for many years, was a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, and was an environmental consultant for the Michigan Chamber of Commerce.

Warren was a member of Chelsea First United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and directed the church orchestra. He was active with Chelsea Kiwanis, Michigan Institute of Laundry and Dry Cleaning, Chelsea Area Players, and Washtenaw County Republicans.

A memorial service will be held Monday, November 6, 11:00 am at Chelsea First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Tom Macaulay officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10-11 a.m.

Donald Ernest Vogel of Chelsea, age 89, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Chelsea.

He was born Aug. 6, 1928 in Ann Arbor, the son of William and Myrtle (Sundel) Vogel.

Don graduated from Ann Arbor High School. He was a carpenter for 60 years with Local 512 and Detroit Local. Don was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, and traveling to visit family.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Nov. 5, 3 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Dexter, with Rev. Mark Porinsky officiating.  The family will receive friends at Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea Saturday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and at the church Sunday 2-3 p.m. before the service.

Burial will be at Washtenong Memorial Park, Ann Arbor.
