Road Commission imposes seasonal weight restrictions, lower speeds for trucks

With the freezing and thawing of the roads, the Washtenaw County Road Commission has imposed seasonal weight restrictions for trucks this week.

In addition to the weight restrictions on all-season roads. For vehicles that weigh more than 10,000 pounds, there is a maximum speed limit of 35 mph, regardless of the posted limit.

Speed, in conjunction with axle and wheel loading, contributes to road damage including the creation of potholes, according to the Road Commission website.

These  restrictions went into effect on Monday, Feb. 25, at 6 a.m. until further notice.

There’s also a map of the roads with restrictions here.

  1. Please check out N. Lima Center Rd. between Dexter-Chelsea Rd. and I-94. The trucks being used by the oil pipeline co. have done a number on our road. Will they be repairing it when they are done?

    • Yes. Check back later today for a story from a special meeting that took place yesterday between the Road Commission and Enbridge on that very topic. Exciting news.
