St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea was the only hospital in Michigan to receive both the Healthgrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award™ and Patient Safety Excellence Award™.  In addition, the hospital was recognized as one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Joint Replacement Award™ and Pulmonary Care Excellence Award™.

“Receiving these clinical awards illustrates our dedication to quality and safety as well as our commitment to providing compassionate care to our patients,” said Nancy Graebner, president and CEO, St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea. “It is very satisfying to be recognized for the top-notch care St. Joe’s provides right here in Washtenaw County.”

In addition, the hospital was recognized as one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care Award™, America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Coronary Intervention Award™ and Outstanding Patient Experience Award™.

The hospital also received Excellence Awards in general surgery, pulmonary care, vascular surgery, cranial neurosurgery and stroke care.

The Healthgrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award recognizes hospitals that provide an overall outstanding patient experience. Healthgrades evaluates patient experience performance by applying a scoring methodology to 10 patient experience measures, using data collected from the 32-question survey of the hospital’s own patients. Hospitals in the top 15 percent with the highest overall patient experience scores are recognized as Outstanding Patient Experience Award recipients.

The Patient Safety Excellence Award recognizes hospitals that have the lowest occurrences of 14 preventable patient safety events. These hospitals are in the top 10 percent in the nation for patient safety. Patient safety measures how well a hospital prevents injuries, infections, and other serious conditions based on 14 serious, potentially preventable adverse events.
