The St. Louis Center recently held back-to-back events to benefit residents of the Sylvan Township residential care center for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Fifty people attended a special diner at Paesano’s Restaurant in Ann Arbor to honor former St. Louis Center Administrator Father Joseph Rinaldo.

The meal featured the foods of Sicily, Rinaldo’s home area, and included a five-course meal of “Spada Puttanesca,” (pasta with diced swordfish) and seared duck breast. Each item was paired with a selection of red or white wine.

“Friends from the local community stood-up to praise his life’s devotion to persons with developmental disabilities, and in the end, he received several special gifts,” Joe Yekulis, public relations director, said in a press release about the event.

In addition, the Golf and Glory Golf Outing took place on June 26 at the U-M Golf Course.

“A full course of 144 golfers began their beautiful sun-drenched 75 degree day with a 10 a.m. shotgun start, and enjoyed golfing at one of the finest golf courses in Michigan,” Yekulis said.

“Fifteen celebrity golfers were in attendance, and the winning team came in at 13 under par,” he said.

The after-golf dinner was “tastefully catered by Moveable Feast caterers, and a live auction and awards ceremony followed,” he said.

Following a welcoming address from Pistons play-by-play announcer George Blaha, St. Louis Centers’ friends and staff honored John Beilein with the John Panelli Celebrity Award to recognize him for his work.

Beilein, the head U-M men’s basketball coach, has chosen St. Louis Center to be his favorite charity as long as he remains coach for the Wolverines.

Co-chairman of the event Norm Neuman was also honored with the Bill Wagner Pioneer Award for his many years of hard work.

St. Louis Center is a residential care center for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities located five miles west of Chelsea on Old US-12, and run by the Servants of Charity Congregation.
