Heartfelt, positive goodbyes to Superintendent Andy Ingall, who is leaving the district at the end of the month to become the superintendent of the Grand Haven school district, were a big part of the Chelsea Board of Education’s June 22 meeting.

Board President Steve Olsen presented Ingall with a plaque from the board, “to remember what you left behind,” Olsen told him.

State Rep. Gretchen Driskell (D-Saline) presented Ingall with a certificate she signed along with State Sen. Joe Hune (R-22) and Governor Rick Snyder. She praised Ingall’s good work for the school district and told him, “It’s been a great experience working with you.”

During the public comment, Chelsea Education Association President Rick Catherman said, “On behalf of the Chelsea Education Association, we thank you Andy.”

Ingall told the board that he was grateful for the time he’s spent living, working and raising his family in Chelsea. “I will always think fondly of and be thankful for my time in Chelsea,” he said.

Among the individual action items the board considered was a unanimous recommendation to approve the Interim Superintendent contract with David Killips for the 2015-2016 school year and the Consulting Contract with Killips for the period from July 1, 2016-December 31, 2017.

In other action, the board approved amendments to the 2014-2015 budget as well as recommending the 2015-2016 Preliminary Budget as presented prior to the meeting by Teresa Zigman, executive director of business and operations, at a budget hearing.

Also approved by the board was the hiring of four teachers by the district.

Jaimie Jackson was unanimously approved to be hired as a Speech and Language Pathologist for the school district.

Sara Radu, a Chelsea High School graduate, was unanimously approved  to be hired as a Beach Middle School Teacher Consultant.

The board also unanimously approved the hiring of both Heather Hay and Kim Gasieski, a Chelsea High School graduate, as both kindergarten and first grade teachers at North Creek Elementary School.
