The Chelsea District Library has a job opening for a library aide who reports to the circulation supervisor.
The part-time, hourly, non-exempt job is 6-15 hours per week and includes days, evenings and weekends.
The pay range is between $8.67 – $11.47 per hour and information must be to the library by Friday, Aug. 28 at 5 p.m.
The library aide performs tasks necessary to keep books and other library materials in order, assists circulation or librarian staff, and performs other duties as assigned.
Specific Duties include:
- Sorting materials onto book carts, then shelving material.
- Maintaining shelf order by organizing shelves daily, shifting material on shelves as needed, and identifying materials in need of repair.
- Maintaining newspapers and periodicals.
- Keeping reading/sitting areas neat and orderly.
- Substituting for other library aide staff while ill or on vacation.
- Attending and participating in staff meetings and work groups.
- Assisting patrons with basic directional and collection questions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications include:
- Ability to alphabetize, to put numbers in order, and to read and comprehend both written and oral instructions and to respond appropriately.
- Positive public service attitude.
- Ability to bend, reach and lift, push or pull up to 40 pounds and read fine print.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Proven punctuality and reliability.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Basic clerical and computer skills, including Windows environment.
- Must be at least 16 years of age and available to work days, evenings and weekends, including weekday morning shifts.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a public library or some knowledge of standard library functions/procedures and a flexible schedule.
