Third time: Jake Burris headed to NCAA Div. 3 swimming and diving championships

Chelsea’s Jake Burris, an Albion College junior, is heading to the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championship for the third time.

Burris was the runner-up in the 1- and 3-meter events in the regional championship meet held in Chicago last weekend.

In the 1-meter competition, he finished with a 456.40 total, finishing 67 ½ points behind Heath Ogawa (Lake Forest College).

Burris achieved awards of 50.70 on his forward 2 ½ somersault and reverse 1 ½ somersault, 1 ½ twist.

In the 3-meter competition, Burris finished with a 460.25 total. He gained scores of 7 and 7 ½ on a forward 3 ½ somersault with a 2.8 degree of difficulty and three judges awarded scores of 6 ½ on a forward 2 ½ somersault with a twist that came with a 3.0 degree of difficulty.

The NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championship is scheduled for March 21-24 in Indianapolis.
