Chelsea-based company Torrance Learning was honored at the Michigan Celebrates Small Business Event in Lansing May 3 as one of the Michigan 50 Companies to watch.
Owner Megan Torrance attributes that honor to the company’s great work culture, its team of 25 people, and sharing what they know with their industry peers.
“We are helping our clients give really excellent learning opportunities to their employees, their sales partners and, where we’re doing public health and nonprofit work, to people all over the world,” said Torrance. “It’s really amazing that a little company in the Clocktower complex has such a reach. I attribute it to all the care and thought that the team puts into our work-trying to make the world a better place to work in.”
Torrance Learning builds custom learning opportunities centered around workplace learning for clients that range from universities to large corporate and nonprofit clients.
“Sometimes we’re designing really engaging live training classes, sometimes we’re building self-paced online learning, sometimes it’s custom software or a learning platform,” said Torrance. “Every time it’s something new and different.”
Torrance founded the company in 2003, and has had clients that include the University of Michigan and its hospital, NSF International, the Dow Chemical Company, the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum as well as out-of-state clients.
Torrance says that most of their clients are large organizations based in the U.S. and Canada that often have a global reach.
As far as being located in Chelsea goes, Torrance says, “We love the community, we love the shops and restaurants, and we love the Clocktower complex landscaping and outdoor meeting spaces. There is so much going on to provide a really lively environment for businesses, and we’re close by Ann Arbor, Detroit, Lansing, Jackson and Detroit Metro Airport.”
