Visitors to Chelsea will see the town adorned in pink on Saturday, Sept. 29 as all the preparations of the Chelsea Area Fire Authority and the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce come together for the breast cancer fundraising event that benefits Susan G. Komen for the Cure Mid-Michigan.

“We have great expectations for beautiful weather, which is supposed to be in the mid-60’s,” said Chris Pearson, executive director of Susan G. Komen for the Cure Mid-Michigan.

Organizers are hoping that several thousand people will participate in the fundraising event that will benefit people in the community.

She said, “75 percent of the dollars raised goes back into the community for screening programs, education, and support groups; 25 percent goes to national breast cancer research.”

More then 100 businesses are involved in the event, which will take place from 10 a.m – 6 p.m. in southtown and downtown, said Fire Lt. Scott Basar, the event chairmen.  Participating businesses will have pink and white balloons outside their locations.

People can buy passports for the event for $25 and receive a goodie bag. Then enjoy a day of shopping and dining. Once they visit 12 participating establishments and have 12 holes punched in their passports, they become eligible for drawings and prizes at an after party at Chelsea Lanes. Winners need not be present to claim their prizes, Basar said.

The passports also serve as an entry ticket to special event festivities such as the kids zone in the Palmer Parking lot.

There will be additional parking at the Chelsea Community Fairgrounds and shuttle buses that will take people in and out of town.

Special promotions include W-4 Country and Bubba’s pink lemonade stand, a breast cancer information center, commemorative T-shirts and teddy bears, which will be sold by volunteers throughout the day.

People are encouraged to wear pink and get into the spirit of the community-supported charity event.

Adults are invited to an after party at Chelsea Lanes where there will be adult beverages, live music and winners of the drawings will be revealed.
