CAFA logo on doorChelsea Area Fire Authority Chief Jim Payeur told the board Tuesday morning. April 19, that the authority had received a $1,000 grant from the Enbridge Pipeline Company’s Safe Community Center Grant Program to purchase a thermal imaging camera.

In addition, Chelsea is one of several county fire departments that has applied for a regional grant to replace emergency equipment — including air packs breathing apparatus and fire hose.

“CAFA’s required contribution would be 10 percent of the total cost for these items, approximately $15,000,” Payeur said adding, “We’ve been told we stand a good chance of getting funding.”

He said that firefighters Chris Wiggens of Superior Township Fire Department and Fire Lt. Mark Volger of Ann Arbor Township developed, wrote and managed the grant application.

The board also discussed having a monthly calendar of key dates in the board packet as reminders of things such as contract renewal dates, board appointments or budget deadlines. And along those lines, the board was informed that the City of Chelsea had adopted a resolution to reappoint Tom Osborne as the At Large member of the CAFA board for an additional two years.

In other news, Lyndon Township Supervisor Marc Keezer told the board that he had been tasked by his township board to investigate possible alternative fire protection for the township.

The board also voted to move its May 17 meeting to Lima Township Hall because the Chelsea City Council chambers in the municipal building is not available on that date. The meeting will begin at 9 a.m.
