Chelsea City Council OK’s request to act as fiduciary for possible historical society grant

CAHS_LogoThe Chelsea Area Historical Society (CAHS) can go ahead and apply for a $25,000 grant from the Chelsea Community Foundation.

On Jan. 19, the 40-year-old group asked the Chelsea City Council to act as its fiduciary if awarded the grant and the elected officials unanimously approved the request.

This is not the first time the city has been asked to perform these duties City Manager John Hanifan told the City Council. He said if the grant is awarded, the city will establish a separate fund in the budget for the money.

CAHS recently purchased a home across from The Depot for a museum and headquarters and plans to apply for grant funding for a “professionally designed exhibit,” among other things.

The 60-member group plans to establish two rooms with permanent, professional-quality exhibits, a room for revolving exhibits, a resource/research room for the community to look over the society’s archives, another room set during a historical period to education visitors and second-grade students about an era in American history and establish society offices.
