(Chelsea Update is running a series on businesses in Chelsea beginning with businesses that belong to the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce and this week it’s Jewelry Set in Stone.)

Jewelry Set in Stone is a custom design studio in downtown Chelsea where customers are actively involved in the creation of their jewelry design. It is located near the corner of Middle and Main streets at 105 1/2 South Main St.

“Our business is aimed at targeting customers who appreciate the process of creating something they want,” said owner Stephen Kolokithas. “The designs are not limited to what is available in the jewelry market. We look for our customers to challenge the limits of design and create something that is remarkable and unique to their individual style.”

Jewelry Set in Store also offers repair services, restoration of antique and heirloom jewelry, and repurposing existing jewelry into a custom design.

“There is no fee for consultation, and we will give you an estimate on the spot,” said Kolokithas. “We specialize in engagement and wedding rings but offer a variety of types of jewelry.”

The store officially opened during the Wine Women and Shopping event last November. Kolokithas, who has been part of the Wine Women and Shopping events committee for the past few years, credits the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce’s community and business support as reasons to be chamber members.

“I grew up in Chelsea and have always been in love with the small town feel that Chelsea offers,” said Kolokithas. “Jewelry is more than just a job to us (referring to his family). I started creating jewelry at Chelsea High School under the supervision of Kerry Kargel and have since worked under various jewelers learning the skilled trade.”

Kolokithas was awarded a spot to display in the juried Ann Arbor Art Fair at the State Street show, where he will be displaying again this year.
