This year’s six Chelsea Community Fair queen candidates — three each from Chelsea and Dexter high schools — got to know each other Wednesday evening at the home of the current Fair Queen Amy Gilbert during a special tea party held in their honor.

Fair runs from Aug. 25-29 and the fair queen competition takes place on Friday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. in the Multipurpose Arena.

Participating this year are:

  • Junior Alissa Trinkle from Dexter High School, who will show pigs and a steer in the 78th Annual fair. She’ll explain the different types of horsemanship and accompanying tack, as her talent.
  • Junior Emma Young from Dexter High School, who plans to show rabbits, goats and sheep at fair. She will play the clarinet as her talent in the fair queen competition.
  • Junior Hanna Brodeur from Chelsea High School, who will exhibit still projects and sing as her talent.
  • The only senior in the group is Kelsey Olberg from Chelsea High School, who will show still exhibits in the green barn at fair. She is still deciding what her talent will be for the competition.
  • Junior Kylie Kuebler from Chelsea High School plans to show pigs, rabbits and still exhibits at fair. She will play the violin during the talent portion of the competition.
  • Junior Taylor Luckhardt from Dexter High School will show dairy, rabbits and sheep at fair and she plans to do a demonstration of species showmanship for her talent.

Each fair queen contestant is required to have a business sponsor and perform a number of duties during fair week — including building a float for the fair parade. You’ll see them helping out at Ladies Day and sitting in the Lions Club Dunk tank as well.

If you’d like to help any of these contestants with the costs involved in running for fair queen, please contact them directly or call Heather Kinzer at 734-476-8429 for more information.
