Surprise. Hatch Stamping Company’s President and COO Daniel Craig arrives in the conference room to learn that the  company was named the 2017 Large Business Leadership award winner.

Earlier this week, ambassadors and staff from the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce surprised Hatch Stamping Company’s President and COO Daniel Craig and his Chelsea staff with the 2017 Large Business Leadership Award.

The award is given each year to a chamber member that has shown leadership in the following areas:

  • Displaying innovative ideas and services.
  • Contributing to the economic impact of the City of Chelsea.
  • Providing services that meet the needs of the Chelsea area community.
  • Enhancing the uniqueness of the community image.
  • Demonstrating leadership in their business category.
  • Supporting the activities of the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce.

“We are honored to be this year’s Large Business Leadership award recipient,” said Craig, who added, “We appreciate the acknowledgement and recognition. Hatch Stamping’s international headquarters have been in Chelsea for over 30 years and we remain committed to the community.  Thank you to the chamber, its members and the community for this award.”

Suzanne Morrison, the director of marketing for the company, said Hatch is a leading manufacturer of highly-engineered metal stampings and assemblies for the automotive industry.

“We’re proud of the fact 95 percent of all vehicles on the road today contain a part from Hatch Stamping,” she said.

Currently, the company has more than 1,300 employees (with approximately 270 of those people in Chelsea at 635 E. Industrial Dr.) in 13 manufacturing and technology center locations, three of which are in Chelsea.

Morrison said the company has expanded its square footage to over 1,000,000 square feet world-wide.

“Although our core expertise is stamping, Hatch Stamping’s capabilities have continued to evolve over the years,” Morrison said, adding, “The company offers stamping, welding, engineering and other services to the automotive market, focusing primarily on metallic parts that are complex, highly engineered and require extensive value-added services.”

In fact, the company was recently named one of 2017 Crain’s fastest growing companies, adding to the numerous national awards and accreditations the company has received for its technologies, business practices and products throughout the years.

Just as important as its products and people are the company’s beliefs in giving back to its local communities.

“Hatch Stamping believes in sharing our values with and contributing to our surrounding communities,” Morrison said.

“We work with local colleges and high schools, participating in regional, statewide and national initiatives, such as job fairs, training and intern programs. We support local robotics teams and expanded apprenticeship programs. We also open our plants to industry leaders, as well as high school and university students, including co-horts from China studying at the University of Michigan,” she said.

In addition, the company will have a place of honor in the 2018 Chelsea Fair Parade.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce and the Ambassador Club, I congratulate you and your staff for receiving the 2017 Large Business Leadership Award,” said Monica Monsma, executive director of the chamber.
