(Chelsea Update would like to thank Allison Vanderspool for the information in this story.)

This year’s Children’s Christmas Bazaar will be held Saturday, Dec. 6 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. during Hometown Holiday.

The Children’s Christmas Bazaar is designed to provide a fun shopping experience for children and help them understand that meaningful gifts don’t need to cost a lot of money.  All items for sale are handmade or locally made, and each costs $5 or less.

Two shifts of 7th-12th grade “Shopping Buddies” are needed to assist children as they select, wrap and pay for gifts for their families. Shift hours are:  9:30 a.m.-12:30pm and noon-3 p.m.

Training will be provided for the first 30 minutes and then students will have fun helping children shop for 2.5 hours.

Student Volunteer Perks:  Students may shop for their own families after their shift ends, and each will receive a Volunteer Service Hours thank you letter that can be turned in for service hour credit to their school. Pizza and snacks will also be provided for students who sign up for both shifts.

To Sign Up:  Students can sign up to work with friends, family, members of their club, sports team, etc., at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090c4aaeaf2a1-2014  Additional information will be sent to registered volunteers.

This bazaar is not a fundraiser.  Many people from our community donate their time and talents throughout the year to create items, and net proceeds provide scholarship shopping opportunities for children served by Faith in Action.

The event is held and sponsored by Chelsea First United Methodist Church, 128 Park St., across from The Purple Rose Theatre.
