Chelsea Area Festivals and Events is proud to announce the 42nd annual Sounds and Sights Festival July 26, 27 and 28 in downtown Chelsea
Presented by Rick Taylor Real Estate – Reinhart, the weekend event will feature national and regional live music acts, local food and brew, classic car show, chalk art contest, and multiple activities for all ages.
Social Tent and Festival Main Stage:
Located behind The Common Grill restaurant, the festival social tent opens each evening at 6 p.m., with live bands performing from 7 to 11 p.m. Beer and wine will be for sale to those aged 21 and over.
Admission in the evenings is $5 and all ages are welcome. Proceeds from the social tent, in addition to the many local sponsors including Chelsea State Bank, “Jiffy” Mixes and Chelsea Chevrolet Buick, help fund the summer-long “Sounds & Sights on Thursday Nights” free concert series.
Thursday, July 26, is ‘Local Spotlight’ night and features bands with local roots. Ben Daniels Band (BDB) kicks off the Sounds and Sights Festival on the main stage at 7 p.m. BDB has toured the country several times, and regularly makes the rounds in the Great Lakes State. The Ben Daniels Band believes in hard work, perseverance, and creatively challenging themselves and their audience.
At 9 p.m., The Accidentals take the stage with their range of orchestral-based music. Named among Yahoo Music’s “Top 10 Bands to Watch in 2017,” The Accidentals’ adventure began in their hometown of Traverse City, MI. Having grown up in musical families, the bandmates’ shared influences bounce between classical, jazz, bluegrass, country, alt-rock, and the obscure.
Friday, July 27, is ‘Country Night’ and features two of the region’s most popular country performers: Kari Holmes and Bill Kirchen. Opening Friday night at 7 p.m., Kari Holmes will perform with her passionate lyrics, dynamic sound and high energy. She recently completed her first radio tour and continues to promote her debut EP, “Something New.” Kari is currently touring and selling out shows in the Midwest and continues to branch out.
Grammy-nominated guitarist, singer and songwriter Bill Kirchen will take the stage at 9 p.m. Bill received his Grammy nomination in 2001 and is an architect of what is now known as Roots Rock ‘n’ Roll and Americana. He continues to be one of its most active proponents, playing, writing and performing throughout the world.
Saturday afternoon, the social tent has free admission 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and features The Kielbasa Kings from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Dearborn-based polka band performs contemporary and traditional polkas, waltzes, and obereks instrumentally as well as sung in both Polish and English.
Saturday evening the tent reopens at 6 p.m. with a $5 cover for the festival’s annual ‘Dance Party’. The collective talent of Root Doctor kicks off the party at 7 p.m., performing a diverse mix of classic soul and R&B alongside traditional blues and inspired original material. Sounds & Sights welcomes back a social tent favorite, Fifty Amp Fuse, at 9 p.m. to close out the Sounds & Sights Festival weekend with their tribute to the greatest hits from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and today.
