Please join the Chelsea Pop Project team as we kick off public engagement on Tuesday, July 7.
A mixture of in-person and virtual engagement events are part of the week’s efforts.

Tuesday, July 7, 6:30-8:30 p.m. in person public engagement meeting at Palmer Commons.
Wednesday, July 8, 10-11 a.m. walking tour. Please join project coordinators on a walking tour beginning at the Chelsea High School parking lot closest to the Freer Road intersection. Look for the Chelsea Pop project sign. The leisurely walk will begin at the Chelsea High School intersection and traverse to the intersection of Freer Road at AD Mayer and then return. Bottled water will be provided for participants.
Wednesday, July 8 6:30-8:30 p.m. virtual public engagement meeting via Zoom. Zoom meeting details will be provided the day before the meeting is held on the project website. *Zoom meeting is limited to 100 people.
Saturday, July 11 9 a.m. Chelsea Community Forum. Project coordinators will be participating in the Chelsea Community Forum. Please visit the Chelsea Community Forum website to find the Zoom meeting login.
Monday, July 13 6:30-8:30 p.m. final design webinar. Zoom meeting details will be provided the day before the meeting is held on the project website. *Zoom meeting is limited to 100 people.
Project Design Survey
As part of the engagement efforts, a short survey will be available on the project website for people to take and share their thoughts regarding project elements. The survey will be made available in paper form at the in-person engagement efforts and will be online until Friday June 10.
The Chelsea Pop project team will provide reasonable accommodations for people when requested. In-person engagement meetings are accessible for all participants. Meeting materials can be made available in alternative formats when requested. Please make your request for accommodations, to Suzann Flowers at either [email protected] or by phone at 734-994-3127 3 days prior the meeting to ensure availability.
To protect the health of all participants, paper masks and hand sanitizer will be available during all in-person public engagement efforts.
The Chelsea Pop project is a 30-day demonstration project that will be deployed in the month of September along Freer Road, Railroad, McKinley and Dewey streets.
Project partners include the City of Chelsea, Washtenaw Area Transportation Study (WATS) and Saint Joseph Mercy Health System.

Even a one-sentence explanation of what Chelsea Pop is would have been REALLY helpful for those who had not been following along!
You are absolutely correct, John. Below is a brief explanation. The City of Chelsea is partnering with WATS in the development of a Tactical Urbanism demonstration project along the Freer Road, Railroad, McKinley and Dewey streets corridor. The Chelsea POP project will be a low-cost 30-day demonstration project to showcase temporary pedestrian and bicycle design concepts. Community engagement will be used to help identify design concepts to include in the project.
“Tactical urbanism”? Seriously? Who comes up with this stuff?
Supporters and participants – please consider vehicle traffic flow in your discussions/designs.
And keep in mind if the city decides to go ahead with something like the “Wolf development”, Freer Rd. will need to be a 4-lane with a center turn lane, not a cutesy bike path/greenway.
Randy, I would encourage you to come and participate in the public engagement events to learn more about what we are proposing and how we are balancing the needs of all users of the transportation system.
