Several hundred people lined the streets downtown and followed the veterans, bands and scouts to Oak Grove Cemetery for the annual Memorial Day ceremony Monday, May 27.

Chelsea joined many thousands of communities across the country to pay tribute to the many veterans who sacrificed their lives for our freedoms.

“All gave some, but some gave all,” said Ron Montange, who was the featured speaker at the cemetery ceremony, which included the Chelsea High School band that played patriotic music during the solemn occasion.

“Military heroes gave up all their tomorrows so we could have ours,” Montange said.

He told the crowd that there were more than 700 veterans buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery dating back to the Civil War.

“Forty-four years ago, I marched with my dad in this parade,” Montange said, adding that two of his sons served this country, and one was seriously injured by an IED.

He asked the crowd to remember that freedom isn’t something that’s free, and for some, the price is downright exorbitant.

He asked that people exercise their civic duty and vote and pray for our country, the community and its leaders.

“Cherish the memories of families, friends and veterans,” he said.
