A Sneak Peek: 2022 Chelsea Community Fair Queen Candidates

Meet this year’s Chelsea Community Fair Queen candidates. Top row: Avery Beeman of Grass Lake, second row left to right: Rayne Cook of Dexter, Amber Konarski of Chelsea; bottom row: Emily Trinkle of Dexter, 2021 Fair Queen Katie Wickman of Chelsea.

(Publisher’s note: Emily Trinkle was a fair queen contestant two years ago, not last year. I apologize for my mistake.)

Sunday, I had the pleasure of meeting the 2022 Chelsea Community Fair queen candidates at a tea held at the home of 2021 Fair Queen Katie Wickman of Chelsea.

2021 Chelsea Fair Queen Katie Wickman and one of her three dogs, Phoebie.

The tea is a traditional meet and greet for all the ladies and marks the start of a host of fair queen candidate activities that take place before and during fair.

Avery Beeman, a junior at Grass Lake High School, said she’s been looking forward to becoming a fair queen candidate since last year’s fair and was Jr. Homemaker of the Year in 2021.

Emily Trinkle, graduated from Dexter High School this year, and is currently enrolled in cosmetology school at Huron Valley Beauty Academy.  She had so much fun as a contestant two years ago, she decided to do it again in 2022, the last year she’ll be eligible to compete.

Rayne Cook, a sophomore at Dexter High School, will attend fair for the first time this year, and she’s looking forward to seeing everything that other people’s accomplishments in the green barn and give back to the community.

Amber Konarski, a junior at Chelsea High School, will also attend fair for the first time after recently moving to Chelsea. She looks forward to being at fair to experience everything that fair has to offer.

Reigning Fair Queen Katie Wickman said she had so much fun competing for the title last year that she wanted to do more and competed in the Miss Washtenaw County pageant this year and was named Miss Congeniality. She’s made a U-tube video titled “How to Fair Queen,” and will attend the University of Michigan in the fall for bio-molecular science with plans to become a dermatologist.
