On Friday, April 4, the Chelsea Area Fire Authority firefighters voted unanimously, 12-0, to unionize with the Michigan Association of Fire Fighters (MAFF).
Last year, 11 members of the department voted, 7-4, not to join the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF).
The Chelsea firefighters filed a petition with MAFF in February, and representation includes all full-time and paid-on-call firefighters employed by CAFA, which totals about 18 people.
A petition was filed last year to unionize with IAFF, but it was defeated by a majority of the firefighters.
