The Chelsea freshman football team defeated Ann Arbor Pioneer on the road on Thursday by a score of 14-8.

Chelsea jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead after two Cole Munson touchdown runs. On the next possession, a Chelsea interception in the Pioneer end zone kept the game close.

After that neither team could do anything on offense until Pioneer scores a TD and 2-point conversion with 5:00 left, making the score 14-8.

Again, Chelsea couldn’t move the ball and Pioneer drove to the Chelsea 5-yard line with one second left. Pioneer’s pass fell incomplete giving Chelsea the win.

“It was very windy, and we were not a threat throwing the ball so Pioneer ganged up on the run and really dominated our offense in the second half, ”coach Dennis Stryzewski said, adding, “We didn’t finish plays on defense as well as we had in previous games, but those guys hung in there and made the big stop at the end.”

“I told the kids that sometimes coaches have bad days, and players have to find a way to win anyway. I made a lot of mistakes today, but the kids did what they had to do to get the win,” the coach said.

Diego Medal, Joe Clark, and Trevor Vosters all stepped up with big games on defense.
