Chelsea Kiwanis Club Sponsoring MLK Jr. Youth Essay Contest

The Kiwanis Club of Chelsea is sponsoring a Youth Essay Contest with One World One Family Chelsea as part of Chelsea’s 2023 Martin Luther King, Jr. Days of Service/Social Action Jan. 9-21. The contest is open to grades 1-12 with topics specified by age group. 

High School students – write about Dr. King’s work and what it means to you and how it will impact your future.

Middle School students – Martin Luther King, Jr. stood for non-violence. How can you promote non-violence in your school and community?

Elementary School students – Draw a picture and describe what your picture is showing about what Dr. King did to make life better for people.

“Winning” submittals may have their photo and/or work published in the online Chelsea Update as well as Chelsea District Library. Winners will also receive a MLK, Jr. gift from the Kiwanis Club of Chelsea.

Essays or art is due by Jan. 20. 

High School and Middle School students can drop their entries off at the school office or send their entries by email to: [email protected]

Elementary students can drop off their pictures and description at your school office, at the Chelsea District Library or send it by USPS mail to: One World One Family Box 31, Chelsea, Michigan 48118

On Thursday, Jan. 19 at 6 p.m. St. Louis Center will host a movie about Dr. King followed by a discussion on discrimination led by members of two high school service clubs, Key Club and Interact.

The Kiwanis Gourmet Mixed Nut Sale continues. Saturday, Jan. 14, 36 ounce cans of cashews, brazil nuts, pistachios, almonds, and pecans for $25 will be available at the Fishville Farms market at Chelsea fairgrounds from 10 am to 4 pm.
