Republican Scott Cooper will be the new supervisor of Sylvan Township and will take office on Nov. 20 after he defeated current Supervisor Bob Lange, who ran as an Independent, 905 votes to 731 votes, according to unofficial results.
In fact, there will be a completely new Township Board beginning later this month with Doug Smith as the clerk, Rod Branham as treasurer, Kurt Koseck and Roy Schmidt as new trustees.
Both Smith and Branham ran as Republicans and were unopposed Tuesday. They received 1,304 votes and 1,280 respectively.
Schmidt received 1,001 votes and Koseck got 974 votes. Both ran as Republicans.
Sandra Egeler, a Democrat, had 715 votes and Alex Slocum, an Independent, got 352 votes.
In addition, township voters approved the Chelsea Area Fire Authority millage renewal, 1,070 votes to 749 votes.
I want to thank Sylvan Township for all your support and encouragement that you have given to me and to the Clean Slate group. Our work has only begun and I know that I am more than ready to tackle it. I truly believe that I can make a difference and as long as I can make a small difference as Treasurer, then I will have been a success. But I am also not foolish enough to think that it will be an easy task.
I have an awesome Deputy Clerk that is also excited to make a difference. I am looking forward to our talks with Chelsea over the Water and Sewer and will do my very best, as will the rest of the new board to come to some agreement with Chelsea that is beneficial to both of us.
I also want to thank Bob Lange for all of his talks and willingness to help myself and Doug to understand and share some Township agendas.
I look forward to working with the entire new board and here’s to a great 4 years where I truly feel that we can all make a difference for the best interest of the Township.
I would also like to thank, Vickie Kooyers, who is the former Dexter Township Treasurer, who has graciously offered to come out and help me get our taxes out. Vickie has been a wealth of information and I am so grateful for her assistance as she was a real asset to Dexter Township.
