The annual Chelsea Hometown Holiday Concert Series takes place the first Sunday in December and highlights not only Chelsea musical talent but collaborations with local ensembles.
Adults and youth, professionals and amateur musicians have been working and learning together, to present a concert at the highest musical level.
On Sunday, Dec. 2 at 3 and 7 p.m. at Chelsea First United Methodist Church, 128 Park St. Tickets are not required for this free concert, but early arrival for seating is encouraged as historically, the concert becomes standing-room only.
The choirs and chamber orchestra of Chelsea High School, the choirs of Fordson High School from Dearborn, and the director of the National Arab Orchestra is expanding a music cultural exchange program.
“Our goal is to bridge the divide between two cultures by exploring the life of peer groups through music study in two diverse school and community settings, to learn directly about other people through sharing common musical and personal experiences and to present concerts in both communities of the highest artistic quality to enable students to know that music is a language that allows people from all walks of life to communicate, work together and learn from one another,” Hinz said in a press release.
These student musicians will join forces with the Chelsea First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir and the Chelsea Chamber Players to perform the choral piece “An American Rhapsody” by Z. Randall Stroope.
They will also perform two traditional Arab pieces named “Zuruni” and “Nasam” adding musicians from the National Arab Orchestra. String musicians will also perform the “Holberg Suite” by Edvard Grieg.
