Letter to the Editor: Vote yes to Chelsea Schools

Dear Editor:

I have been cheering for Chelsea my entire life.

Chelsea School District has taken on the challenge to keep our students ahead of the technology curve. As an owner of a software company, trying to find specialized employees (technicians, programmers, engineers) from the area, let alone US Citizens, is extremely tough.

Chelsea is committed to technology and finding career options for non-college and college bound students. Part of this bond is bringing a technology center at the Washington Street building that after a two-year program, a student can be certified in programming robots.

The Technology staff at Chelsea is talking to parents, who work in various Technology fields, to ensure the newly developed curriculum can be tailored to meet the needs of the ever-changing business world.

Since most of our school buildings have an average age of 49 years old, there are some safety features that need to happen. The safety and security of our children is of utmost importance. In addition, we have been able to update technology and regularly purchase school buses through bond proceeds in the past.

It may not be a big deal to some voters, but to me the fact that we have Transportation, Custodial and Maintenance all part of our Chelsea School Staff (and not outsourced) is something to be grateful for. The personalized service we get from local employees is beneficial.

Also, most schools have a pay-to-play policy and we do not.  We enjoy a comprehensive athletic program without pay to play.

This bond not passing, would hinder our ability to be competitive and be a desired community to live in.

This bond will keep dollars in the classroom to benefit our kids. Please vote YES to Chelsea Schools.
