Painterly Expressions, a new spring art exhibit, will open in Gallery 100 at Silver Maples of Chelsea on Sunday, May 5 with an opening reception for the nine local artists from 1-3 p.m.

The artists are from the Chelsea Center for the Arts’ Artist Teaching Artists class.

Coordinator Rose Bradley said many of the artists have been painting together for many years; while others are new.

“Artists at any level of expertise, or beginners as well, are welcome to paint with us and share in the support, advice, encouragement, and good times to be had there,” Bradley said, adding, “Because it is a drop-in studio class, and artists are charged for only the classes attended, we can accommodate artists who can’t come in weekly or who are out of town for a season.”

The group of artists represented in this exhibit are now part of the newly formed  Chelsea Artist Guild.

“We have recently formed with the purpose of exhibiting our work as a group,” she said.

This year’s show encompasses landscape, bird, floral, portrait and still life watercolor paintings with something for everyone to enjoy, Cowan said.

This year’s artists include Janet Alford, Rose Bradley, Tammy Burke, Sue Craig, Paula Christie, Mary

Fitzgerald, Nita Mills, Missy Cowan, Nancy Murray, Libby Price, Anne Taylor, and Sally Wetzel.

About 50 works in oil, and pastel, as well as watercolor will be on display May 5 to June 27.

The exhibit will also take place during the CCA’s annual fundraiser on May 16, that’s also held at Silver Maples of Chelsea.

“We are thrilled the show coincides with the CCA’s annual spring breakfast,” Bradley said, adding, “We are very fortunate to live in a city that embraces the arts in all its forms.”

Silver Maples Gallery 100 is located at 100 Silver Maples Dr.  Hours are Sunday-Saturday, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.

  1. The text reads “Thursday, May 5…” I presume Sunday May 5 is meant.

    • I’m sorry about that. Yes, Sunday, May 5 and the story has been corrected.
