Recent obituary: Anne Marie Bradley Comeau

Anne Marie Bradley Comeau of Chelsea died peacefully of congestive heart failure on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017 surrounded by loving family.

She led a life fully dedicated to her family, public education, and service to her community. Anne was born in Boston, MA on Jan. 5, 1934 to William Robert Bradley and Marguerite Sylvia Dupuis. Anne graduated from Notre Dame Academy and the Forsythe School of Dental Hygiene. During this time, she met the love of her life, Edward J. Comeau, who had her name painted on the nose of a B26 bomber stationed in Korea 1953-54. They married on May 25, 1957 and raised four daughters while living in a variety of places.

In Livonia, MI, Anne became involved in the local PTO and civic association which sparked her passion for community activism. After a three-year adventure in Buenos Aires, Argentina and a seven-year stint in Fort Washington, PA, the family settled Chelsea  in 1978.

Anne’s interests included quilting, tennis, theater, and genealogical research as world travel, but her innate talent was the ability to work within organizations for positive community change.

Anne’s principal work was on the Chelsea School Board where she served from 1981-1993, including five years as President. Overlapping those responsibilities, she served on the Washtenaw Intermediate School District (WISD) Board of Trustees for 18 years. Her work there included two terms as President, and leading a delegation invited to the White House in 1992 to celebrate Thomas Fleming being named National Teacher of the Year. In her work with the Michigan Association of School Boards, Anne served as a consultant to districts in their superintendent searches and self-assessments.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Dec. 22, 2017, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chelsea with V. Rev. Dr. William J. Canon Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home on Thursday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with Vigil Services at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be at the church on Friday, from 10-11 a.m.
