Robin Hills Farm to host October fibre arts workshops

As part of an expansion of their fine arts and craft-oriented educational offerings, Robin Hills Farm will hold the first of its new Fibre Arts workshops on Saturday, Oct. 21, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

This class, Nuno Felting 101: Fine Wool and Silk Scarf, will offer participants of all skill levels the opportunity to design and create their own high-quality handmade scarf using merino wool and silk.

This workshop is designed for ages 13 and up, and beginners are welcome. It will be led by Char Sobieski, an experienced fibre artist who teaches fibre arts to patients at the Ypsilanti Treatment Center. Char will lead students through the basics of wet felting, an ancient technique of textile-making, then guide them through the design and execution of their projects.

Participants will leave with a sturdy and beautiful piece of wearable art, as well as the skills to craft felted items at home.

The registration cost, which includes tuition and materials fee, is $75 per student.

The next class in this series is Resist Felting 101: Fine Wool and Silk Vessel, on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. (registration $75). Char will instruct students in designing and creating a decorative vessel to use as a home accent or handmade gift.

Further fibre arts offerings, including knitting and rug-making workshops, will be added to Robin Hills Farm’s 2018 educational offerings on a continuing basis, and may be found on their online calendar or Facebook page.
