Governor Rick Snyder has called for the lowering of all U.S. flags to half-staff on all state buildings and within the state capitol complex for Patriot’s Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance, Sept. 11.

Flags should be returned to their full staff positions on Saturday, Sept. 13.

Flags will remain lowered on Friday, Sept. 12 to honor former Representative and Senator George C. Steeh, Sr., who died August 28, 2014.

This flag order is in accordance with Executive Order 2013-10.

Michigan residents, businesses, schools, local governments, and other organizations also are encouraged to display the flag at half-staff.

When flown at half-staff or half-mast, the U.S. flag should be first hoisted to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff or half-mast position. The flag should again be raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day.
