Sylvan Township Board Approves Master Plan, Hears Presentation from Robin Hills Farm

The Sylvan Township Board unanimously approved the proposed Master Plan at its May 2 meeting. The Master Plan was approved by the Sylvan Township Planning Commission Feb. 23.

Cyndi Jabari, the board’s newest member, will also become a member of the planning commission. She was approved by a unanimous vote by the board.

Michael Voorheis, an investment professional from Chelsea State Bank, spoke to the board about how its money is being invested.

“The farther out you go with investments, the higher the interest,” he explained. “If you need liquidity soon, we don’t go out that far. The 10-year treasury interest rate is 2.3 percent.”

The board also heard from Laura Thacker, Robin Hills Farm food and beverage manager, who did the same presentation for the planning commission last week and was recommended to go before the board to request approval to pursue a liquor license.

“It firmly puts the liability on Robin Hills Farm if we have our own liquor license,” Thacker explained. “I don’t think the whole farm will serve alcohol, just buildings and controlled outdoor areas.”

Thacker said that she would like the farm to get a Class C license to allow for more than one bar at the farm.

The board will consider giving Robin Hills Farm approval to pursue a liquor license from the Michigan Liquor Control Commission at a future meeting. If the farm does get a liquor license, it will have to come back to the township for final approval as well as coming back for annual approval.
