Maple syrup and maple tree tapping awaits you this weekend during the “Old-Time Maple Sugar Festival” that takes place Saturday and Sunday, March 9-10 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Gerald E. Eddy Discovery Center in Sylvan Township.

On Saturday, you can get your adventure off on the right foot with a pancake breakfast at the American Legion Post 31 beginning at 10 a.m. and running through 2 p.m. The Legion is at 1700 Ridge Road on Cavanaugh Lake, not far from the Discovery Center.

The whole family is invited for a breakfast of pancakes, sausage, juice, milk, or coffee with real maple syrup at a cost of $6 per person.

And once you’re fueled with a hearty breakfast, you can head the short distance to the Discovery Center to see how to tap maple trees and learn how maple syrup is made.

Observe various methods of collecting sap, see how it is boiled down to make syrup, and even (yum) try a sample.

There will be a film showing visitors the old-time methods, and there will be syrup-making tools from the Waterloo Farm Museum on display.

And, maple products will be available for purchase at the Discovery Center, 17030 Bush Road in Sylvan Township.

Contact the center at 734-475-3170 for more information.
