Update on B2B Trail Progress

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Kiff Hamp for the information in this story.)

The Huron Waterloo Pathways Initiative (HWPI) continues to work in close partnership with the Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation Commission (WCPARC) to complete the county-wide Border to Border Trail (B2B Trail).

After a year of collaboration with public partners and record-breaking fundraising, 2024 is set to be the biggest year yet of B2B Trail segment construction – including:

  • A 1.6 mile segment from N. Territorial Rd to Boyce Rd along M-52 west of Chelsea
  • A 0.7 mile segment along Dexter-Chelsea Rd, from Parker to the Miller Smith Preserve
  • A 1.3 mile segment from Zeeb Rd to Delhi Metropark along Huron River Drive, connecting all 3 Washtenaw County Metroparks along the B2B Trail
  • A 0.6 mile paved trail across the Barton Nature Area
  • The long-anticipated Barton Bandemer Tunnel under the rail line at Bandemer Park, opening up the Huron River Drive corridor to Ann Arbor
  • The Title IX Plaza in Dexter-Huron Metropark, our first major trail-adjacent project that will honor Southeast Michigan-based women who were instrumental in passing Title IX legislation in 1972, and. who have since helped to significantly advance women’s sports.

The project continues to move closer to finishing the 45-mile, county-wide B2B Trail, with fewer than 10 miles remaining.
