Veterans of Foreign Wars Youth Scholarship program

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Chuck Reed for the information in this story.)

Chelsea VFW Post 4076 is once again sponsoring the youth essay scholarship programs.

The Voice of Democracy program is for students in grades 9 through 12, and is a spoken essay based on a patriotic theme. This year’s theme is “Why My Vote Matters”.

The Patriots Pen program is for students in grades 6th through 8th, and is a written essay also based on a patriotic theme. This year’s theme is “Why I honor The American Flag”.

Both programs are conducted nationwide, and students compete on their local levels, with winners advancing to their Districts, then to state and on to the national competition in Washington D.C.

The top scholarship award in the Voice of Democracy is a $30,000.00 scholarship to the recipient’s American university, college or vocational/technical school.

In the Patriots Pen the national first-place winner wins $5,000 and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington D.C. Along the way scholarship money is available at their local, district, and state level.
