Volunteer To Help at the Chelsea Community Fair Kitchen

The Chelsea Community Fair will take place Tuesday, Aug. 24-Saturday, Aug. 28, which means the fair kitchen will be humming in the Service Building – offering wonderful meals (and air conditioning) throughout fair week.

Offering breakfast, lunch and dinner (as well as snacks and yummy treats), Shelley and Ginny Wheaton will once again be at helm.

It takes about 20-25 volunteers per day to keep everything running smoothly during the week and Wheaton is looking for volunteers to assist her in the kitchen as well as in the dining room.

Volunteering for the fair kitchen is a great service project for a community group and a fun way to see folks you don’t run into much during the year — because fair is always a place where old friends return to Chelsea and gather.

“We are hoping people will be willing to volunteer for even one shift,” Shelley Wheaton says, so please call 720-317-9295 or email [email protected] and offer a helping hand.

Jobs include everything from stirring mac and cheese and cake batter, panning up the specials, or serving Sloppy Joe’s. Restocking items. Straightening the dining room. Delivering or picking up trays. You can volunteer to take orders, scoop food, grill, or wash dishes. Or, you can help set up or clean up at the end of the day. There’s a job for everyone.

And older youth and adults can volunteer for a few hours, a shift or a whole day.

With shifts filling up quickly, be sure you contact her soon to get the time slots and jobs you want to do.

The volunteers will provide an a la carte breakfast from 7 a.m.-10:30 a.m. during which diners will have a choice of eggs cooked to your liking, French toast or pancakes. There will be sausage, bacon or biscuits and gravy to choose from as well.

Lunch is served beginning at 11 a.m. and dinner specials start at 4 p.m.

Dinner, as well as the daily items like hamburgers or cheeseburgers, hotdogs or grilled cheese, are served until 8:30 p.m., but be sure to get there early because you don’t want to miss out on the daily dinner specials.

The daily lunch menu includes a choice of grilled cheese, mac and cheese, grilled hotdogs or hamburgers and French fries. Or perhaps you’d prefer a tuna or egg sandwich on a croissant. And, there are chips and cookies, and cold drinks and water, too.

A full menu with prices will publish closer to fair but until then, the popular and tasty Swiss Steak dinner will be on the menu for Tuesday, Aug. 24.
