Voters approve sinking fund, special education millages

The Chelsea School District sinking fund millage renewal was approved by district voters 1,562 votes to 971 votes, according to unofficial election results.

Chelsea led the way approving it 662 votes to 206 votes.  In Sylvan Township, voters approved the renewal 256-240, while in Lyndon Township the margin was much slimmer, 178 votes for it and 157 against it.

The portion of Freedom Township voters in the school district defeated the proposal 22 votes to 19 votes and the portion of Sharon Township voters in the district approved it 23 votes to 18 votes against.

In Dexter Township, it passed 209 votes to 138 votes, while in Lima Township, voters approved it 177-162 votes. In both townships, a portion of the children attend Chelsea Schools.

The portion of voters in the district in Jackson County also approved it 38 votes to 28 votes.

This means homeowners in the school district will pay the 0.925-mill tax for another 10 years.

In addition, all homeowners will soon be paying a new 10-year special education 1.5-mil tax increase.
