Westchester Farms, new Sylvan Township development, moving forward

Sylvan Township Hall

By Lisa Carolin

Westchester Farms, the new Sylvan Township development located off Cavanaugh Lake Road, was one of the topics discussed at the Sylvan Township Board meeting Dec. 5.

At least 12 homes have been presold in Westchester Farms and construction on a model is about to begin. The development, located a mile from downtown Chelsea, could potentially have 300 homes. Sylvan Township Supervisor Tom McKernan said that he’s been in touch with Chelsea Area Fire Authority Chief Rob Arbini to determine road names and address numbers in the development.

Mike Jurosek is changing his role with the Sylvan Township Water and Sewer Authority, and Township Treasurer Rod Branham has stepped up to be the water services coordinator during the transition period. He was approved by the board (Kathleen Kennedy absent.)

The board also supported the Chelsea Area Fire Authority’s 2018 budget.

In other action, the board voted on who will be the 2017 Citizen of the Year based on applications received. That person’s name will remain a secret until the board announces it at its Jan. 9 meeting.

Chelsea District Library liaison Jan Carr told the board that this Saturday, Dec. 9, the Friends of the Library will hold its first ever December book sale, which will run from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

  1. Hopefully the developer will also make sure their Fire Hydrants will have the proper connections for CAFA equipment.
