Lately, at Western Washtenaw Recycling Authority (WWRA), we have been getting requests for a list of materials that can be recycled.
That list can be found here under Community Services. Click on Recycling then Services or click on our Facebook page.
Here is the list again with examples and more information.
Newspaper and junk mail mix
- Newspapers and glossy inserts are OK
- Collect in a brown paper bag; secure with tape or string, keep dry for collection
- Magazines, catalogs, paperback and phone books
- Collect in brown paper bag separate from newspaper mix
White office paper
- Bag separately from all other papers
Cardboard, cereal boxes, and paper bags
- Flatten corrugated cardboard boxes and boxboard, such as cereal boxes
- Consolidate brown paper bags together into one bag separate from other papers
Plastic bottles
- No. 1-7 plastic bottles such as milk jugs and detergent bottles, cottage cheese, yogurt, etc.
- Remove caps and lids, rinse well and flatten, labels may be left on
Rigid plastics such as plastic buckets, soda crates, plastic pallets, coolers, drums, toys and playhouses, plastic flower pots, laundry baskets, empty garbage cans, plastic pet containers.
Glass bottles and Jars
- Clear, green, and brown only.
- Green and brown glass may be mixed
- Remove caps. Steel caps may be recycled with cans
- Rinse well, labels may be left on
Tin and aluminum cans
- Aluminum and steel cans and lids
- Remove labels, rinse well, flatten if possible
- Empty aerosol cans are OK
Small metals and aluminum
Car and Truck Batteries – At the drop-off station on Werkner Road
Used Motor oils – In the onsite drop-off station on Werkner Road
No motor oil containers
No blue glass
No plates, china, ceramics, mirrors, window glass, or light bulbs
No propane tanks of any kind
No tires
No paints
No styrofoam of any kind
No computers, monitors, keyboards or printers
