3 presentations, 2 DDA appointments on Chelsea Council agenda tonight

Chelsea logo 2Among the three presentations to the Chelsea City Council on Monday, Jan. 20 is the Proclamation of Equality to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, which is expected to be presented by Joanne Ladio on behalf of One World One Family.

One World One Family will present the signed and framed copy of the proclamation that was celebrated throughout the community last year and displayed in different venues throughout Chelsea. The group would now like the City Council to have the framed and signed proclamation.

But first, David Trimas is expected to make an Eagle Scout proclamation and Trinh Pifer is scheduled to give a presentation about the Chelsea Senior Center, according to the agenda.

On the council business agenda are the use of Timbertown for the annual Chelsea Kids’ Fest, which this year is planned for June 18, and falls under the “use of public property for special events” ordinance, so it must be approved annually by the City Council to use the park.

In addition, Chelsea Mayor Jason Lindauer has two Downtown Development Authority (DDA) appointments on the agenda. He has brought back the nomination of Pat Cleary that was postponed, 6-1, at the Jan. 6 meeting (which I was unable to attend because of the weather). The postponement came at the request of Council Member Jim Myles, who distributed both a cover letter and a police report to the City Council that detailed an incident which took place in December, 2012, between he and Cleary.

Lindauer has also nominated Dr. Rebecca Patrias for the DDA.

There are currently two open seats on the board — one left vacant by the resignation of Jason Povich and a second seat when the term of Bob Pierce expired and he asked not to be reappointed.

In addition, there are two discussions on the agenda — one on “Washtenaw Area Transportation Study and SPARK coverage” requested by the mayor, and a second about “respect and responsibilities” requested by Myles.

City Manager John Hanifan  and Police Chief Ed Toth are also expected to give reports.
