Chelsea Area Fire Authority Elects Officers

Correction: Please note the correct Spelling of Tom Demske’s name. I apologize for the mistake.

The Chelsea Area Fire Authority Board held its annual meeting on Jan. 18 and re-elected its current slate of officers.

Tom Osborne of Chelsea will continue as the chairman, Craig Maier of Lima Township as vice chairman, Kurt Koseck of Sylvan Township as treasurer and Tom Demske of Lyndon Township as secretary.

In addition, the board gave Fire Chief Rob Arbini permission to apply for a SAFER grant to hire six additional firefighters.

Osborne said the additional firefighters would be used to improve emergency medical response and would not cause any tax increase after the grant runs out.

It’s expected that the board will know if the grant was awarded as soon as August and if awarded, it’s expected that the new hires would be onboard in 2023. The board plans to retain the personnel after the grant expires as well.
