Chelsea Area Players Youth Theater brings the musical “Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr.” to the stage on March 22-24.

“Schoolhouse Rock” has many of the upbeat, fun and educational songs from the Emmy Award-winning cartoon series that aired on ABC-TV on Saturday mornings from 1973 through 1985. The songs are fun for children of all ages, and their parents and grandparents will enjoy revisiting memorable tunes from their past.

“Mention ‘Schoolhouse Rock’ and everyone has a favorite song,” said Brian Myers, artistic director.

Although the original stage play has the role of the young teacher as a male, Myers and vocal director Alex Moore cast a female for the part and changed the teacher’s name from Tom to Tammy.

Sixth grader Georgie Reynolds, who plays the part of Dina, said, “The thing that is special about this musical is that every single song teaches you something about a different subject in a fun way.”

She and the cast of nearly 40 children ranging in age from third through eighth grade agree that even though rehearsals have been hard work, they have also been “extremely fun.”

“Schoolhouse Rock” will be be performed at the George Prinzing Auditorium in the Washington Street Education Center, 500 Washington St.

Show times are on March 22-23, 7 p.m. ,and on March 24 at 3 p.m.

Tickets are $10 and available in advance at Chelsea Pharmacy, 1125 South Main St. or at the door, which opens 30 minutes before show time.
