The Chelsea Boys’ Track and Field Team finished 10th in the MITCA team state meet in Linden, Mich., on  Saturday, May 24

“It was a beautiful day for a track meet – sunny and calm,” said coach Eric Swager. “We took a large squad to this meet with the purpose of giving many kids an opportunity to compete at a high level.”

The coach said individuals on the team posted a number of lifetime bests, and the team finished the day with “a nice feast” provided by the parents.

Chelsea finished 10th with a score of 497.5 points.

Top 5 finishes were:

Micheal Smith won the discus with a toss of 152 feet.

Mike Mesko was 5th in the shot put with a lifetime best toss of 46’5″.

Noah Van Reesema’s 6′ high jump placed him thirdd.

Pole vaulters David St. Pierre and Denrick Action placed 2nd and 4th.

The 4×100 relay team of Ty Nelson, Zach Skogheim, Jeremy Policht, and Kenny McDowell were fourth in a season best time.

The state qualifiers head to Grand Rapids Houseman Field on Saturday for the state finals.

“Once again, thanks to the coaches and parents who continue to make Chelsea track a successful experience,” Swager said.
