Chelsea Planners OK Shell Station site plan with contingencies

By Lisa Carolin

The Chelsea Planning Commission approved a final site plan for Chelsea Petroleum, Inc., which is located at 1629 S. Main St., just north of I-94 on the east side of Main Street. The Commission did so unanimously at its Aug. 20 meeting, but did include some contingencies.

Chelsea Petroleum, Inc. will now be able to demolish a car wash and construct a 2,402 square foot addition that will include a drive-up coffee and sandwich shop window at the existing gasoline station.

The contingencies in the Planning Commission’s approval include using materials that are closer to a 60-40 split outlined in the commission’s commercial design standards.

There was added concern about the appearance of the building because of its location as a gateway to Chelsea.

(The site plans are contained below)

City Engineer Christine Linfield reported to the commission that approval from MDOT (Michigan Department of Transportation) is required for Chelsea Petroleum Inc.’s final site plan approval, and that MDOT has, indeed, approved the plan.
